Dan Switzer Interview

Another fun interview with Dan Switzer!  In his own words:

"My calling is to teach and disciple young people, helping them to grow in their walk with the Lord. I have written the book Train Up a Child because I wanted to understand what the Lord has called us to as parents. I also served as the principal of Ets Chaiyim Tree of Life School, a Messianic Jewish school, for 13 years, 11 years as principal.

I accepted the call to pastor and then my wife Silvia and I started Living Grace Christian School in 2008. This school has the express purpose to partner with parents to raise up champions for the Lord--servant leaders of godly character who advance the cause of Christ and make disciples of all nations.

My most recent book--The Courage Challenge--has its roots in our summer Christian camp called Camp Courage, in which we encourage young people to be champions for the Lord because they know that God is always with them. The key verse is Joshua 1:9.

I was raised in a Christian home. My dad, Thurlow Switzer, partnered with people such as Dan Juster and Asher Intrater of the Messianic Jewish movement in the Maryland area. "

Today's show also featured music all about Yeshua, our King, Messiah and Lord!!!

Do you ever think about keeping Kosher?  I admit that growing up I ate ham, but after I became a believer in Yeshua I decided to keep Biblically Kosher and I stopped eating pork and shellfish.   Should all believers keep Kosher or just Jews?

Hope Egan wrote an interesting book, "Holy Cow, Does God Really Care What We Eat?"  We discussed it during this fun interview today!  Hope shared her story of faith and we had a great talk!

Jay Axtell Interview

Yay!  I found another interesting person to interview!   I love hearing everyone's story.  Here is a bio of Jay Axtell.  Hope you enjoy the music and the interview!

"The impetus for my involvement in the Jewish ministry paradigm began at Shady Grove Church in 1992. The son of a preacher and Christian educator, I had been familiar with Paul’s proclamation,

“For I am not ashamed of the Good News, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who trusts—to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16 (TLV)

It was not until I began going to Shady Grove and listening to the teaching of Pastor Olen Griffing, Elder Robert Morris and Dr. Wayne Wilks, Jr. that I began to realize the importance of the connection of the church with Jewish people and Jewish ministry.
After moving away, but visiting Shady Grove in 2009, and learning of Chancellor Jack Hayford’s The King’s Seminary (TKS) in Van Nuys, CA, I took a leap of faith and restarted my journey of education to take a Master of Divinity in Messianic Jewish Studies. The Seminary became a university and moved its main campus to the previous campus of Gateway Church on Southlake Boulevard (TKUG). I was blessed to participate in TKUG’s first graduation in 2015.
I reconnected with Dr. Jeffrey Seif, and becoming his associate pastor at Sar Shalom (Prince of Peace) Messianic Jewish Congregation in 2011, I still felt the push to continue my education at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, which was located three blocks from our house. I counselled with Professor Jon Huntzinger from TKUG on whether I should continue at TKUG for the DMin Messianic Jewish Leadership or go to the newly developed DMin Leadership and Creative Communication at SAGU, he told me a story of one of his professors. Dr. Huntzinger asked him about discerning the will of God. The wise professor told Huntzinger, “Often, when seeking the will of God, one has to look no further than the back yard.” I knew he was encouraging me to go to SAGU. Dr. Seif encouraged the same. My DMin project, however, is called, SALVIFIC OUTREACH TO JEWISH PEOPLE: STRATEGIES FOR PRESENTING JESUS AS MESSIAH AND SAVIOR. I believe ministerial credibility in both Messianic Jewish and Christian camps is helpful. My doctoral project was signed Tuesday October 27, 2020 and I graduate in December 2020. May all Israel see perfectly in 2020!"

Rabbi Ron Goldberg (Repeat)

You can never have too much of Rabbi Ron!   Today is a repeat of our show together last summer (2019).  Here is his bio:

Rabbi Ron Goldberg was raised in a Jewish family in New York City.  He began sneaking out to church during his senior year of High School. A friend then gave him the "forbidden" New Testament to read and he soon discovered that Yeshua (Jesus) really is the Jewish Messiah. "After coming to faith in Messiah Yeshua my parents thought about having a funeral for me," Ron stated. "Instead, they sent me to a rabbi for deprogramming and intensive counseling!"

His relationship with his parents was very difficult for several years but giving them grandchildren helped restore it. Rabbi Goldberg's wife, Vinu and he, are an inter-faith couple with 5 children.

Since 1989 he has served at Messianic Congregations and spoken at churches and Bible studies. "God has called me to raise my voice like a shofar (Isa. 58). I teach about Israel, the Messiah of Israel and the Feasts of Israel (God's Appointments with His children)."

Enjoy the music too!!

Daniel Chadwick

There was a VERY handsome man in the studio today!  OK, I am a tiny bit biased.   You see my husband, Daniel, decided to join me today and I was thrilled!  Daniel teaches Religion, Ethics and Philosophy online for 5 colleges and has a unique understanding of the scriptures!  He was raised in a Lutheran home and began reading the Bible as a literary work long before he knew the Lord.

He studied Hebrew, Greek (and other languages too) and is able to understand scripture in a scholarly way.

Today we discussed similarities and differences between the Jewish Bible, or Tanakh, and the Christian Old Testament, which is slightly different (the books are in a different order, etc.)

It was a stimulating discussion and I am inspired to spend more time in the Word of God!

Ron Cantor Again!

It's been a few years since I interviewed fellow Virginian Ron Cantor on Bagels and Blessings!  Yes, we both grew up in Richmond but didn't know each other.  Probably because I'm older (shh!!).

Ron is an excellent author, speaker and evangelist and recently he completed his latest book, "Birth Pangs."  It's really excellent and relevant to our current situation with Covid-19, politics, the End Times, Black Lives Matter, and much more.   I highly recommend it.

For more info look here:  https://www.roncantor.com/product-page/birth-pangs-ebook or for his other books look here:  https://www.roncantor.com/shop.

In his own words:

"Here is a little bit about me. I serve as the CEO of Tikkun International and presently I host a daily TV show called "Out of Zion" on GODTV.

I was born into a Jewish home, circumcised and Bar Mitzvah'd, but I did not know God! I realized at age 17, there must be more. This led me on a journey where I discovered that Yeshua (Jesus), whom I thought was for the Gentiles, was in fact, the Jewish Messiah.

I received my degree from Messiah Biblical Institute and served as the Associate Rabbi at Beth Messiah Messianic congregation in Rockville, MD until we moved to Odessa, Ukraine to work in the Messianic Jewish Bible Institute. In Ukraine we birthed a congregation in the city upon which Fiddler on the Roof was based, Berdichev. We then moved to Budapest, Hungary.

In 1999 we accepted an invitation to teach Jewish Roots at the Brownsville Revival School of Ministry. In 2003 my wife Elana, a native Israeli, and I, along with our girls, made aliyah (moved to Israel). I served as the co-pastor and interim senior pastor of King of Kings Community in Jerusalem.

During this time we birthed the Isaiah 2 Initiative, taking Israeli young adults to third world nations to preach the message of Yeshua. In Nigeria we saw many miracles and tens of thousands profess faith in Yeshua.

In 2013 I agreed to become the lead pastor of Tiferet Yeshua, a Hebrew-speaking congregation in Tel Aviv. Three years later we turned the congregation over to a native-born Israeli, and, while still functioning as an elder there, I now serve as CEO of Tikkun International, a global Messianic family of 40-plus congregations and ministries in Israel and the US, and beyond, including our own congregation, Tiferet Yeshua."

Today is also Sukkot so I played some music from Nancy Santiago, Steve McConnell, Marty Goetz and Liberated Wailing Wall.

Enjoy!!!

Corry Bell-Keeler & Randy Keeler!

Yes, the newly-weds are here!   Last time I talked with Corry she was sharing how the Lord helped her through many hardships, the worst of which was the unexpected death of her son Beau.  Here is a wonderful, refreshing look at what God has done for her since that last interview.   We will get to hear from her husband, Randy, too.

Enjoy some great Lev Shelo songs too!

Sam & Heather Walker

I met Pastor Sam and Heather Walker in the fall of 2018 at the Messianic Leaders Roundtable in Phoenix, Arizona.   They had just lost their house in the horrific Paradise, CA Campfire that destroyed the whole town.  I was blown away at their faith and joy in the midst of such devastation.   Now, almost two years later and still technically homeless, they remain faithful to Adonai.

Here's an update on what's happening.   May you be inspired.   I know I am!

Enjoy wonderful music from Jonathan Settel, Steve McConnell, Paul Wilbur, Greg Silverman and Deborah Kline Iantorno.

Sid Roth Interview

This was originally aired in 1998!  That would have been my 2nd year on air --- and now it's been 23 years!   Where or where has the time gone?

I had a lot of difficulty getting this to record.   I won't go into all the details but it seemed as if the enemy was doing a lot to keep it off the air!

So please pardon the humming and other distortions.   Praise God I got most of it!!!

May the Lord bless you and heal you as you hear this wonderful testimony -- and enjoy the music!

Shalom!

Kayla Nostrum Interview

Between speaking with Shmuel Salway and then Kayla Nostrum, I think I have a pretty good idea about Lech L'cha Ministries.   What a wonderful organization!

Here is a little bit about Kayla:

Kayla is the oldest of four girls and was raised in a believing family. She was born in Colorado and raised in Kalispell Montana. When Kayla was nineteen years old she moved to Chicago where she attended Moody Bible institute. It was there that Kayla gave her life to the Lord and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in pre-counseling. While she was in Chicago the Lord opened her eyes to the Jewish roots of the faith, gave her a burden for the Jewish people and opened the door for her to move to Israel. Kayla has been living and serving there since August 2018. She studied Messianic Studies for a year at Israel College of the Bible, learned Hebrew at Ulpan (Hebrew language school) and is currently serving with a local Israeli discipleship ministry called Lech Lcha (לך לך).

You will also enjoy great music from Jonathan Settel, Deborah Kline-Iantorno, Marty Goetz, Aaron Shust, Paul Wilbur and Sue Samuel.

Shmuel Salway Interview

A friend recommended that I speak with Shmuel Salway and I learned that he is a fascinating man with a heart to teach others about Yeshua!

Here is more about him:  Shmuel, currently the Director of Lech L'cha Discipleship Ministry, served as the Associate Pastor of Adonai Roi (The Lord is My Shepherd) Congregation before joining the team of Lech L'cha. Shmuel was born in Tel Aviv to Jewish parents who immigrated to Israel from
India. He attended a Messianic Congregation for much of his childhood, and became serious about his own faith when he was 15 and, at ayouth camp, decided to give his life to the Lord.

After graduating from high school, he served as a combat medic in the Israeli army on the Golan Heights and in Lebanon. Later, while majoring in Geography at Tel Aviv University, Shmuel was drawn to serving in summer camps with a strong aspiration to reach out to youth - knowing how important it is for this age group to have someone to challenge them in the Lord.  After working for several years in security for El Al (Israeli Airlines) and the Israeli Consulate in New York, Shmuel returned to Israel and began attending Adonai Roi Congregation in the spring of 2003. That same year, he was invited to become the Youth Pastor. Through meetings with other youth leaders from different congregations around Israel, Shmuel met Suzie, who is also a native-born Israeli. In 2006, they married and currently have four children: Together they continued to be involved in leading youth and young believers in the inter-congregational youth group Neged Hazerem (Against the Flow) gathering the youth of multiple congregations together for weekly events. They were also actively involved in Katzir (The Harvest)
organizing nationwide youth camps. Shmuel and his family moved to Yad Hashmona, a Messianic village in the Judean hills a few years ago, and they are blessed to have him serve in Lech L'cha. Shmuel's passion is to disciple the next generation of believers in Israel, equipping them to continue in their God-given callings.

Donna Milgaten Interview

Shalom!  We've all heard Paul Wilbur sing "Blessed Are You," from his Jerusalem Arise CD.   But did you know it was written by Donna Milgaten?   Upon researching copyright information I stumbled upon this little known fact and discovered a very sweet and very talented lady!   In this show I feature music from the Forgiven CD - all songs written by Donna!

Raised in a Gentile home, Donna discovered the Jewish roots of her faith and fell in love with Messianic Judaism.   After hearing her group Water to Wine perform at a Jews For Jesus gathering, Moishe Rosen (J4J founder) encouraged the group to record their music and share it with the world. Later that year the trio began tracking their album Forgiven at Son Song Studios in Las Vegas.

Donna signed with Sound Oasis Productions, Paul Wilbur discovered her song "Blessed Are You," and the rest is history!!   Enjoy the music but please stay for the interview!!

Hadassah Berne Interview

Hooray!   I found another talented Messianic recording artist!   You will love her music and this fun interview!

Hadassah Berne is a Messianic Jewish singer and songwriter. As a nice Israeli Cuban-American Jewish girl, Hadassah's music reaches out to Jewish people in every part of the world, and non-Jews alike, pointing to the redemptive power of Yeshua, and the restoration of Israel.

Hadassah has opened for and sung with world renown Messianic Recording artists, Paul Wilbur, Ted Pearce and Phil Klein.

She also sang the National Anthem at various events hosted by City of Miami's mayor and city commissioners.

In Israel, Hadassah held concerts in Tel-Aviv, at venues such as the Gospel Café Outreach Center, and in Chosen People Ministries both in Tel-Aviv and Netanya.

While living in Israel, she was blessed to have warmed the hearts of Holocaust survivors with her music. She also led worship at her congregation there.

It's Father's Day weekend, so I threw in a couple of cool songs from Aaron Shust (Zion) and Joel Chernoff (Lay Your Hands on Me).

Enjoy!!!

Richard Hill Interview-2

Hang onto your seats.    This is a heavy interview as Pastor Richard Hill goes deep into prophecy.    But remember, we do NOT live in fear.   God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind! 2 Timothy 1:7.

Richard Hill was the associate pastor of a messianic Jewish congregation in Los Angeles when he was invited, in May, 2000, to join the CJF Ministries' missionary staff as its southwest ministry representative in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was further confirmation to Richard that God’s ministerial calling for him was to reach out to His Chosen People.

Richard has trained and taught many volunteers how to witness effectively to the Jewish people. He leads a campus ministry at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) passing out tracts and sharing the Gospel of Jesus to all who are interested. Richard also leads a door-to-door ministry in predominantly Jewish communities.

In September, 2003, Richard planted and continues to pastor Beth Yeshua (House of Jesus), a messianic congregation on the southwest side of Las Vegas, which serves as an outreach into the Jewish community. Another aspect of his ministry is teaching the Jewish roots of Christianity in churches and imparting his love for “the lost sheep of the house of Israel” to his Gentile brethren.

Richard is married to Oanh, who also has a burden to share the love of Messiah with the Jewish people. They have three children: Stephanie, Rebekah, and Isaak.

Richard has received an M.A. in Religion and a Ph.D. in Theology. He is an astute teacher and communicator of God’s Word.

Enjoy music from Jonathan Settel, Marty Goetz, Miqedem (featuring Shai Sol), Paul Wilbur (featuring Beckah Shae), and more!

Rabbi Joe Bell

Shalom!   I thought this was from 2012 but now I think it was from 2017.   In any event, I am happy to re-post this wonderful interview with Rabbi Joe!

Rabbi Joseph “Joe” Bell was raised in a Jewish home in the Boston area. He has a strong Orthodox Jewish pedigree, and attended synagogue with such luminaries as Sheldon Adelson, Robert Kraft (New England Patriots owner) and family, Barney Frank, etc. It was a very prominent synagogue and Bell was very comfortable being Jewish and practicing Judaism.

Boston is also where he began his search to know God at the age of 28. It was then that he began to read the Bible (his Bar Mitzvah Bible) looking for God, seeking His power to change the direction of his life. He prayed at that time and asked God to come into my life if He was real.

Bell says, “I wasn’t looking for Jesus. After I began reading the Tanakh, people began to pop into my life and tell me about Messianic prophecies. Finally somebody connected me to a Jews For Jesus missionary who I agreed to talk by phone with. Her name is Sharon. But before Sharon, one of my employees saw me reading the Bible and pointed me to Messianic prophecies. She challenged me to read Isaiah 53. After reading it, she asked me who it was talking about? I said it sounds like Jesus. She said it is Jesus. So after months of reading and talking with my employee and with Sharon by phone, I decided to go meet with my Rabbi.

“I told the rabbi that people were sharing prophecies with me and pointed out Isaiah 53. The rabbi became visibly irritated and barked ‘That’s not Jesus Christ!’ I said, ‘Fine, who is it?’  He had no answer… And I knew that he really didn’t know.  About ten months passed and a series of events led me to read the New Testament Gospels and within a month I invited Jesus into my heart as my Messiah and Lord. God immediately spoke to my heart and told me to go out to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles and tell them about Him. I received this message after going to Church for the first time with a Christian friend who saw me seeking. I had spent the day fasting and confessing my sins to God after Church. I went through some sort of deliverance that day alone in my home, then I believe God spoke those words to me in my house that night.

Lily Isaacs - Again!

It isn't every day that you hear country bluegrass music on Bagels and Blessings!   I first aired this interview about 2 years ago after hearing The Isaacs minister at the Messiah Conference.   Imagine my surprise and delight to learn of their Jewish roots!    So enjoy this unique music and also a few Passover tunes!

Today's show featured a pre-recorded interview with Lily Isaacs, the matriarch of The Isaacs, with a personal story as layered as the group's signature vocals. Born in Germany to two Polish-Jewish Holocaust survivors, Lilly moved to the U.S. when she was two-years-old. Her family settled in the Bronx where she studied theatre and performed off Broadway. In 1971.

The Isaacs, a multi-award winning family group who began singing 35 years ago are based out of Hendersonville, TN. The vocalists are mother Lily Isaacs and siblings Ben Isaacs, Sonya Isaacs Yeary and Rebecca Isaacs Bowman. Playing their own acoustic instruments and joined by other band members, The Isaacs have a unique style that blends tight family harmony with contemporary acoustic instrumentation that appeals to a variety of audiences. Their musical style has been influenced by many  genres of music including bluegrass, rhythm and blues, folk, and country, contemporary, acoustic and southern gospel.

Annette Sofaer Interview

It was a privilege to hear this wonderful testimony!

In their early married years Josh and Annette Sofaer served as missionaries with Jews for Jesus in New York City, then for another five years in Los Angeles.  They felt called to return to New York so that Josh could develop Jews for Jesus' youth and camp ministries on the East Coast, so Josh and Annette served in New York from 2000-2011, during which time their daughters Eliana and Taliah were born, and Josh became the branch director.

During those years, Annette was a full-time mom, with side duties such as leading a moms Bible study and helping wives of missionary trainees transition to life in ministry.  In 2011, the Sofaer family moved to Portland, Oregon so that Josh could complete a master's degree at Western Seminary.

In August 2012 the Sofaer family moved to Los Angeles so that Josh could begin directing the Jews for Jesus work in Southern California.  Though the family is still very much in the midst of transitioning to a new area, Josh and Annette are excited to see what the Lord will be doing through Jews for Jesus there.  In 2015, Annette returned to part-time staff with Jews for Jesus, first in church relations department, and now as a missionary to the Jewish women in the Southern California area.

Enjoy amazing music, as always!
